2016 Cadillac SRX luxury crossover review

The current SRX is a midsize luxury crossover that is on the car market since 2009 so it is starting to reach its life expectancy of around 6 to 7 years. Even though they haven’t said anything about it just yet it seems that Cadillac already has a replacement in the works. This 2016 Cadillac SRX, as most people call it, is going to boast a new name, most likely the XT5 due to Cadillac’s new naming scheme. Cadillac SRX 2016 will get a new platform called the Chi, which is a modular platform that will allow Cadillac to save money and also build a better car.

2016 Cadillac SRX changes

Exterior of this upcoming midsize luxury crossover should receive some serious changes, but from the camouflaged prototype we can only see that it is going to be a boxier design, bigger in size with a more aggressive stance than before. Inside the car, the 2016 Cadillac SRX will get a better and more spacious interior. Thanks to this, the SRX might also receive a new version for 7 passengers which would make sense considering Cadillac doesn’t offer such an option anymore. Cadillac SRX 2016 with standard equipment will include satellite navigation, dual zone automatic climate control, a premium audio system and even leather upholstery.

Under the hood, the new luxury crossover is most likely going to drop the current engines in the favor of some more fuel efficient ones. It seems that a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit might find its way to the 2016 Cadillac SRX as the base engine. This powerplant will produce anything between 250 and 280 horsepower and up to 300 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough for the base car. Further up the range, a 3.6-liter V6 might come with up to 320 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. A turbocharged version of this engine is unlikely to come on the normal model but it might arrive on a V-Sport one with more than 400 horsepower. All of these engines are going to be mated to Cadillac’s new 9-speed automatic gearbox and it seems that only the base Cadillac SRX 2016 will come with front wheel drive. All of the others are going to be available only with an all wheel drive system.

It seems that the new Cadillac SRX 2016 will grow in size slightly which will allow Cadillac to free a new slot in their range for an even smaller crossover, letting the new SRX to battle the BMW X3 and also the new Audi Q5. The price for this new midsize luxury crossover hasn’t been announced yet but it is expect to start at around $30,000 for base model while the higher end models will have price around $50,000. 2016 Cadillac SRX changes are going to include new engines, a more refined running gear as well as a better interior.
