The Dart is the smallest car currently manufactured by Dodge and even though it isn’t one of the best selling models or even the most fuel efficient car in its class, Dodge is constantly trying to improve it through yearly updates. However, after a recent leak from Dodge it seems that the next model of the Dart, 2016 Dodge Dart, is going to surface in 2016 when it will come on an improved platform with a few other changes, such as improved engines, a new transmission and an even better look. We can expect to see the base Dodge Dart 2016 till the end of this year.
2016 Dodge Dart changes
Engine wise, the 2016 Dodge Dart is going to feature 3 different engines with the SRT model going for a completely new powertrain. It seems that the 3 engines found in the current generation will remain unchanged, with the 2.0-liter aspirated inline-4 as the base engine. Further up the range, there will be available a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 and a 2.4-liter aspirated inline-4. All of these engines are going to make use of Dodge’s new 9-speed automatic transmission which has been used for some time on other models in their range. The Dodge Dart 2016 SRT on the other hand is most likely going to receive a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 for up to 280 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque which would make it just as powerful as the latest Golf R.
Dodge Dart 2016 redesign
On the exterior, the new 2016 Dodge Dart is going to receive a major facelift with a new front and rear fascias as well as different wheels and also a slightly more aggressive profile. LED as well as Xenon will be available as options while the 16” steel wheels on the base model are going to be upgradeable to 18” inch wheels both on the top end model and on the SRT version.
2016 Dodge Dart price and release date
Unfortunately there is one major drawback with the 2016 Dodge Dart and that is that there are cheaper cars that do exactly the same thing. Dodge plans on stripping the Dart even more to drop the base price from the current $16,500 to around $14,000 which would make the car seriously competitive. The only drawback here is that the base car will not feature things such as Bluetooth or even USB connectivity, air conditioning, electric seats or windows which is quite bad for a car released in 2016. The good thing though is that you will most likely be able to get a Dodge Dart 2016 with air conditioning, a 7 inch infotainment system and electric windows and seats with a little over $17,000 which is already better than the current generation. The 2016 Dodge Dart release date will probably be set to the end of 2015 for the normal Dart and sometime in 2016, most likely in the summer, for the SRT version.
