The 2016 Ford Flex is going to be the third generation of this already iconic model. It is going to feature a very similar design to the current generation which Ford thinks is just the right thing to do in order to keep the character of this 7-passenger crossover intact. The Ford Flex 2016 will be using the same platform as before but there will be a lot of changes which are going to make it more pleasing to drive as well as roomier inside and also more comfortable.
2016 Ford Flex redesign
2016 Ford Flex exterior, just as we said before, will get only a minimal update with different front and rear ends but with the same profile as before. The front will get LED headlights with a slimmer design as well as a slightly smaller front grille. The Ford Flex 2016 rear end will get LED taillights as standard with the option of getting a LED bar on the entire width of the car.
On the 2016 Ford Flex interior there are going to be changes but not exactly cosmetic but rather there will be a lot of new equipment added. For example, the old 4.2 inch standard satellite navigation system will be gone in the favor of a bigger 6.4 inch unit with the possibility of upgrading it to 8 inch. A Sony audio system will be available as standard. The three rows of seats will remain standard but the access to the rear most row will be facilitated by a better design of the middle row of seats. The Ford Flex 2016 luggage compartment is also going to be a bit bigger thanks to a lower floor.
Ford Flex 2016 specs
Engine wise, the 2016 Ford Flex will most likely get a new base engine which will replace the current aspirated V6. This will be the 2.3 liter turbocharged V6 with up to 305 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, so the same amount of power as before but with around a 20% better fuel consumption. The top of the range V6 will be the same 3.5 liter as before but this time the fuel consumption will be slightly better thanks to a new engine management system and a more aerodynamic body. Both engines will come as standard with front wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic gearbox with the option of getting a four wheel drive system on the turbocharged V6.
2016 Ford Flex release date and price
2016 Ford Flex price won’t change all that much so expect to pay anything between $29,000 and up to $40,000 for a crossover vehicle with all the extras selected. A hybrid version has been talked about but it is unlikely to come in the Ford Flex 2016 considering it isn’t that type of vehicle but rather leisure oriented one. What we will get though are a couple of new engines which are going to make it a lot more fuel efficient than the current generation.
