When you take a look at the first generation of Optima model, it is hard to believe that this Korean car has grown to become one of the better looking and better equipped sedans in its class. But that became very believable in 2011, when KIA unveiled the third generation model, and it is about to gain a totally new meaning with the latest generation model. Coming with an evolutionary design, inspired by the Sportspace concept, the 2016 Kia Optima is better than all previous generations in all segments. The new Kia Optima 2016 was presented at the New York International Auto Show, in April 2015.
2016 Kia Optima redesign
Exterior wise, the front fascia is more aggressive. The slightly modified “tiger nose” grille is now wider and narrower, while the headlights have been fully redesigned. The lower grille is also wider, and the fog lights have a vertical surrounds and have been moved more toward the fenders. At the back, the taillights are also redesigned and powered by LED technology, while the trunk lid has a sharper character lines.
The new interior design of the 2016 Kia Optima offers more space and is more comfortable than in the previous model. KIA used its larger luxury sedan models for inspiration when designed the cabin, resulting with a more premium interior with a range of new details, such as the upholstery on the dashboard and the doors, as well as the metallic accents. The clean design of the center stack, now now has fewer buttons and knobs. Technology upgrades include an 8-inch color touchscreen, which integrates with both Android Lollipop and iOS 8, equipped with the UVO2 connectivity system. The 6-speaker audio system comes standard, but there is also the optional Infinity Premium Audio System, which includes 14 speakers, Clari-Fi technology, and a 630-watt digital amplifier.

Under the hood, the new Kia Optima 2016 will offer the naturally aspirated 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and the, 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder of the third-generation sedan. But, both engines have been upgraded for better fuel economy, power and torque. The 2.4-liter engine is capable of delivering 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, while the 2.0-liter turbo produces 247 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine lineup will also offer a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder capable of pumping out 178 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque and it will be paired with a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the first 2 engines will come with the six-speed automatic transmission.
2016 Kia Optima price and release date
The expected price of the new Kia Optima 2016 should start from around $22,500 and go more up, depending on the trim and selected equipment. We expect to see it in US dealerships this spring. Like its predecessor the 2016 Kia Optima will be built in West Point, Georgia.
