The Sorento isn’t the best selling midsize crossover SUV on the market or even the best looking one but it is one of the better packages out there. It offers not only great value for your money but also a luxurious interior which is quite well trimmed for its price as well as a few great engines which aren’t better than those of the competition, but are certainly just as good. The 2016 Kia Sorento is actually a brand new car which has nothing in common with the older model which is a bit unusual for a smaller manufacturer but not unheard of. The new Kia Sorento 2016 shares its chassis as well as its engines with the Santa Fe but the design is something completely different.
2016 Kia Sorento review
In terms of styling, everything changed over the previous generation. The new Kia Sorento 2016 is longer, wider as well as slightly taller and the design has nothing in common with the older model but it actually slightly resembles their new cars meaning it fits the range just fine. The price has also been adjusted so the new Sorento should be available on the market for no more than $27,000 which is quite good for its class. The 2016 Kia Sorento release date will be available for sale starting with May 2015.
Kia Sorento 2016 specs
Under the hood of the new Kia Sorento 2016 there are 2 carried over engines from the previous generation as well as a brand new turbocharged mill. The base is a 2.4-liter inline 4 which is good for 191 horsepower but it isn’t really up on par with the rest. The better choice would be the 3.3-liter naturally aspirated V6 which is good for 290 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, offering the best balance between the two. The turbocharged version is a 2.0-liter inline 4 which is good for 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque and it is by far the most fuel efficient of the three.
There are drawbacks though and the biggest of them all is the fact that the 2 liter model isn’t available with the full seven seats which is a major drawback. However, if you can get past that then the 3.3 liter engine is more than enough but it does lack fuel efficiency. The equipment level is good and we might dare to say that it is better than the average with a bland but very well equipped interior which is similar to that of a much more expensive car.
2016 Kia Sorento redesign
The exterior of the new Kia Sorento 2016 on the other hand is much better looking than before with an impressive front grille, quite a sporty front bumper as well as LED fog-lights which is a first for Kia. The wheels are just big enough to give it a balanced look, so the 2016 Kia Sorento wins at every aspect over the previous model.
