The current model of the Mazda 6 has been released in the US back in 2012 and since then it managed to get to the top three best selling family cars on the market thanks to its fuel efficient engines, neat styling as well as to the ride quality which is arguably one of the best in its class. The 2016 Mazda 6 is actually going to be a mid-life facelift of the current model which will include a few changes that are going to make the car that much better. The diesel variant of Mazda 6 2016 will probably be available later after its production.
2016 Mazda 6 changes
The exterior of the 2016 Mazda 6 on the other hand will only receive a minor facelift which brings it a bit closer to the rest of Mazda’s lineup. The front and rear bumpers include now both a splitter as well as a rear diffuser which should help the car at high speeds whiles the mirrors are more aerodynamic to lower running noise.
Inside the Mazda 6 2016 things changed a lot for the better. The dashboard has been completely changed in order to provide better usability as well as a better overall feeling of the car. Mazda went on and used much better quality materials as well as they provide now more equipment as well. Expect dual zone automatic climate control, satellite navigation and even all electric seats in the base model. A sunroof can also be ordered as an option on most models.
Mazda 6 2016 diesel updates
Engine wise, the 2016 Mazda 6 will continue to offer a 2.5-liter petrol engine as the base engine. This powerplant provides 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque which is okay for a car of this size but not nearly as good as some other offerings. The engine is mated either to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic and front wheel drive only. The automatic can also be ordered with a regenerative braking system which boosts the fuel economy up to 36 MPG on average. There are rumors about a 2.2-liter diesel which may come at some point in its life. This would have an even better fuel economy of more than 40 MPG and a maximum output of around 170 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately there is no strong information about it just yet.
2016 Mazda 6 release date and price
Firstly, the interior of the new Mazda sedan is going to be refreshed in order to be more comfortable and also better looking, but more on that later. It will also receive a new engine as well as a slightly updated look to be more in line with the rest of their cars. As far as the pricing goes, it will be around $21,000 for a base model while the Gran Touring will set you back up to $28,000 dollars. Mazda 6 2016 premium is also expected with a price of nearly $33,000 dollars. The 2016 Mazda 6 release date for all of these models is going to be early 2015.
