The replacement for the aging Mercedes SLS AMG has finally arrived. Although featured in rumour mill since 2012 under various names and designation, the new super car jointly produced by Mercedes and AMG is tagged GT, instead of SLS. 2016 Mercedes AMG GT S is the premium model variant, featuring more horse powers derived from 4.0 liter V8 engine and of course, higher price tag. Compared to the SLS, the 2016 Mercedes GT AMG S has more down to Earth look and feel. The basic look though, with iconic long hood and short cabin, remains distinctive enough to be instantly recognizable on the road as the new Stuttgart super car.
2016 Mercedes AMG GT S specs, 0-60
2016 Mercedes AMG GT S will feature 4.0 liter V8 engine delivering 503 horse powers and 479 pounds of torque. This will push it from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and give it top speed of 193 mph or 310 kmh. The engine is augmented by the Mercedes Biturbo technology, with dual turbo chargers. It also uses dry sum for better oil circulation, which allowed the engineers to mount the engine much lower, thus bringing the centre of gravity much closer to the road, by eliminating a huge oil pan.
The 2016 Mercedes AMG GT S comes standard with AMG Dynamic Select (optional in GT model), which allows the driver to select three modes of suspension, depending on the road conditions. This is enabled through new AMG Ride Control sports suspension, which controls the suspension electronically. This will allow the future owners to enjoy the car not only on track, but on the open road as well.
2016 Mercedes AMG GT S changes
On the outside, 2016 Mercedes AMG GT S looks much tamer than its predecessor. There are no dramatic details, like the gullwing doors. However, it manages to capture the spirit of super car even without them, which is a success for the designers. Everything is leather, aluminium or carbon fibber. The car in general is shorter than the SLS, but the width is the same. Instead of a trunk, GT S now has a third door in the back, which means more boot space, if you need a boot space in a car like this.
Interior is every bit as luxurious as one would expect from a Mercedes super car. Designed with a fighter jet cockpit in mind, the 2016 Mercedes AMG GT S interior is completely devoted to the driver. Large central console that separates the seats is impressive, with its array of buttons arranged to resemble a V8 engine configuration. By lowering the seats and raising the roof, Mercedes designers have made it possible for taller people to be able to drive GT S comfortable, without breaking their necks.
2016 Mercedes AMG GT S cost for sale
The 2016 Mercedes AMG GT S will cost $129,000, plus the inevitable delivery charge of $928, once it arrives in the United States in April of 2015. If that’s too much, base model tagged Mercedes AMG GT will go on sale in spring of 2016. The price for a GT isn’t announced yet, but it will be lower that GT S model.
