2016 VW Passat Alltrack, tdi, usa, release date – The VW Passat is a very well regarded car all over the World and it is also one of the best selling medium sized family cars in the US. However, while the current model sells well, it isn’t exactly the newest car around, being on the market for more than 4 years now. The VW Group is preparing the new VW Passat 2016 for the US market, a fresh car which is going to use VW’s new modular platform as well as it will get new engines which are not only going to be more fuel efficient but also more powerful than the current ones.
2016 VW Passat redesign
The exterior of the new VW Passat 2016 on the other hand is going to receive a lot more work than the interior. The front end will change completely and the car will resemble more than European version of the Passat with more aggressive headlights and LED tail lights as standard. The general shape will also change to a car which will resemble the CC in terms of size and general look.
On the interior there isn’t going to be that much work. The base design of the 2016 VW Passat is going to be kept mostly because the current generation was already up to date. However, there is going to be a new navigation unit which is going to use Android OS, so it will allow the driver to customize its experience any way it likes.
VW Passat 2016 tdi specs
Just as we said, in terms of engines the new VW Passat 2016 is going to be brought a step closer to the competition. The old 2.5 liter and 3.6 liter engines are going to be discontinued not because of their lack of power but because these were quite inefficient. In their place VW is going to bring a 1.4 liter twin-charged inline 4 with 180 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque as the base mill and a much more powerful 2.0 liter turbocharged inline 4 with around 270 horsepower as the top of the range engine. In between these two there is going to be a 2.0 liter tdi diesel with 150 horsepower and more than 240 lb-ft of torque which is probably going to be the choice of many buyers thanks to its average fuel consumption of over 45 MPG.
2016 VW Passat release date and price
The biggest problem with the current car though is not its engines or the interior but rather the lackluster exterior which does look bland in comparison with the Fusion or the Mazda 6. Because of that VW is going to work hard in order to deliver a much better looking car than before with unique design cues and a much sharper look. The 2016 VW Passat release date hasn’t been set just yet but we do expect it to come on the market by the mid of 2016 at a base price no higher than $23,000 which is right where the previous model was.
